Why did Lottoland choose Langerugskool as a project to support.

LANGERUGSKOOL – A SPECIALISED SCHOOL FOR LEARNERS WITH SPECIFIC LEARNING BARRIERS

Langerugskool in Worcester is an established (January 2015) specialised school for learners with specific learning barriers where learners are supported emotionally, academically and physically. 

Learners are accommodated in smaller class groups and follow a mainstream curriculum (CAPS). Support is provided according to each pupil’s individual needs where they receive, among others things, remedial education, occupational therapy, speech therapy, psychological consultation, audio and visual learning, assistive devices, alternative assessments such as amanuensis and audio assistance, as well as an adapted behavioural code to promote positive behaviour and learning in the classroom. Learners in need of a higher level of support are accommodated with individual support plans.

The school’s mission is to create a secure learning environment where experts address learners’ specific needs and guide them to reach their full potential as adults.

Langerugskool currently has 148 enrolled learners of which 26 learners are placed in three (3) Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) classes and one (1) new Autism Spectrum Disorder Vocational Training Facility. The other 122 learners with learning barriers are placed in grades 3-12 where they follow the normal CAPS curriculum.

Our goal is to expand the Langerugskool offering to Western Cape learners with Autism and in particular our Autism Spectrum Disorder Vocational Training Facility.

All funds raised with our projects will have a direct impact on education and improving education facilities for these learners as well as future learners to attend the school.
